About Deena
I am Deena Jarrar, a yoga teacher based in Amman. I found yoga in 2018 and have taught since 2020.
I came to yoga in 2018, drawn first to the physical side of it. What kept me was something else. The quiet mind and the contentment it gave me went well beyond the workout.
On trips through Europe I met like-minded yogis. Those meetings deepened my practice and made me want to teach it myself.
My background is in dance. That shapes how I move and how I teach, and it is the reason Shakti Yoga Dance sits so naturally with me.
I think of the whole practice as meditation in movement. It ends in final relaxation, where you can let go completely.
Every class I teach is a gift to myself.
From dance into Shakti Yoga Dance
I danced before I taught yoga, so a practice that puts movement to breath was always going to suit me. Shakti Yoga Dance blends yoga with the kundalini energy of dance. I trained in it in 2021 and I am the first teacher of it in Jordan.
The choreographies I teach are my own. They move, they build, and they close in stillness, the same way the rest of my classes do.
Where I have taught
I have taught vinyasa and power yoga at Over The Rainbow Yoga Studio in Amman since January 2020, the school where I trained. I teach at the Dunes Club, and for a year I worked with Aerial Fitness Jordan, designing flows for aerialists to balance their strength with flexibility and mobility. I do not own a studio. I teach at other people's venues.
